History

Southern Colorado has a rich history tied to ranching. From the beginning days of the cattle boom in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s, ranchers have been drawn to the area due to the vast open spaces and plentiful grazing lands. The Bow and Arrow ranch has continuously been profitable under current ownership due to thoughtful grazing practices, management, and intentional improvements implemented throughout the ranch to maximize production.

Hunting

The ranch is located in GMU 133 and 134. Both units are known for quality deer, elk and pronghorn hunting. Elk also inhabit the ranch year round and, in good moisture years, turkey and quail can be found. Once the ranch is registered with Colorado Parks and Wildlife, the ranch will qualify for approximately 19 landowner preference applications for each big game species which if drawn the vouchers are transferable to the hunter of the landowners choice. 

Ranch Operations

The ranch has historically carried upwards of 500 cattle and, in good water years, has the ability to run 800+ head.  Further water disbursement investment would open up significantly more pasture land and 1000+ cows year round is achievable.

Grasses

Warm season grasses  include fourwing saltbush, galleta, sand dropseed, & grama.  Cool season grasses include western wheatgrass & indian rice grass. 

Leases

In addition to the 40,713 acres of deeded land, Bow and Arrow has an additional 4,895 acres of state lease land.
