Locale

The western edge of the property fronts Highway 64 about 2.5 miles north of the town of Angel Fire and the Angel Fire Ski Resort, offering alpine skiing, snowboarding, nordic skiing, kids tubing, sledding, ziplining, golf, and tennis.

This part of New Mexico is known for its friendly, laid-back western authenticity. The area was called “angel fire” by the Ute Indians, who marveled at the valley sunsets as if fire was bestowed in the sky from the angels in heaven.

Climate

Situated at 8,500 feet, Saladon Creek Ranch offers respite from the summer heat, as temperatures rarely exceed 80 degrees.

Hunting

Northern New Mexico is well known for its outstanding elk hunting, both in terms of numbers and trophy quality. Saladon Creek is no exception. The water, topography, and ideal mix of meadows and timber provide a sanctuary for elk and other wildlife, including mule deer, turkeys, bear, grouse, and mountain lion. Transferable landowner tags are available for bull and cow elk.

Fishing

There is excellent fishing for rainbow trout, pike, koho, and kokanee salmon minutes away at the 2200 acre Eagle Nest Lake. The Cimmaron River tailwater, just below Eagle Nest dam, offers some of the finest fly fishing in the state of New Mexico with browns and rainbows up to 18”.

Recreation

Other recreation opportunities include hiking, snowshoeing, and OHVing.

Ranch Operations

Saladon Creek is first and foremost a mountain recreation ranch.  That so, the ranch is equipped with infrastructure and water for summer cattle grazing on the lower meadows.  There is live creek water, dirt tanks, ponds, seeps, and springs throughout the property.  

The owner has constructed an impressive network of two-track roads providing access to nearly everywhere on the property and has also developed several water resources for wildlife and/or stock.
