Owl Creek Ranch is a remote, pristine wilderness property located at the foot of the 12,500 Washakie Needles allowing direct access to the Wind River Wilderness and surrounding 2.5 million acre Shoshone National Forest. The ranch offers a myriad of recreational opportunities, but is also a mecca for several species of big game including bighorn sheep, Shiras moose, mule deer, and trophy elk. The trout filled South Fork of Owl Creek runs for over 2 miles along the southern border of the ranch.

Owl Creek Ranch is located in Hot Springs County, Wyoming approximately 60 miles west of the town of Thermopolis. The South Fork of Owl Creek runs the length of the property along its southern boundary. Sagebrush slopes along with stands of spruce, pine and fir cover the moderate to steep mountains that rise above the valley floor.

Named after the prominent Shoshone Chief Washakie, the spectacular 12,500′ Washakie Needles tower above the property. This ranch allows for direct foot or horseback access to very remote regions of the 704,000 acre Washakie Wilderness and surrounding 2,500,000 acre Shoshone National Forest.

Hunting

The ranch is located in Wyoming’s coveted trophy elk unit #64. In addition to some of the West’s best elk hunting, there are bighorn sheep, Shiras moose, mule deer, black bear, and grizzly bears, as well as an occasional pronghorn on the lower reaches of the property.

Fishing & Recreation

Owl Creek Ranch also boasts tremendous private stream fishing for both Brook and Cutthroat trout in South Fork of Owl Creek. Opportunities abound to hike, climb, camp, and explore one of the most pristine wilderness areas in the lower 48 states.

Ranch Operations

There is an updated 1 room trapper’s cabin that provides shelter for overnight stays. Additionally, there is a newer horse barn, tack room, storage area, and corrals with fenced trap for grazing stock.

Leases

The property also has an approximate 1,500 acre Bureau of Land Management Lease that allows for additional recreational opportunities and limited grazing.

Conservation Value

The ranch is protected in perpetuity by a Conservation Easement held by the State of Wyoming (Wyoming Game and Fish) which allows construction of three additional residences and associated outbuildings.
