The ranch has not been heavily hunted in recent years and is managed more like a refuge or preserve.  The ranch, neighboring properties, and adjacent BLM lands to both the north and south are year-round home to a resident herd of elk, numerous deer, and pronghorn. The ranch is situated in Game Management Unit (GMU) 551, renowned for its elk and mule deer populations. Fishing:

No doubt about it, the main attraction of this property is the over two miles of Tomichi Creek (both sides) that run through the heart of the ranch.Middle Tomichi Ranch boasts world-class trout waters that meander gracefully through the entire length of the property. With multiple bends, riffles, undercut banks, and important vegetative cover for shade, this private fishery supports wild populations of brown and rainbow trout, offering dry fly, nymph, and streamer fishing from spring through fall. Recreation:

Horses:

It’s an ideal landscape for trail riding and horse-assisted hunting or wildlife viewing.  With an unlimited number of trails and open fields to explore, both on and off the property, horseback riding has been and remains an integral part of the ranch experience. A tack barn, convertible stables, and catch pens are in the livestock barn near the manager’s residence. There are dedicated seasonal pastures and corrals for year-round care near the Manager’s residence as well.

Ranch Operations:

Historically built and managed as a cattle and summer hay operation, the ranch is currently managed with an emphasis on regenerative grazing and hay production. Rich, irrigated meadows provide forage for livestock and habitat for wildlife, with an efficient layout supported by working pens and barns. There are ~ 340 acres of irrigated meadow on the ranch that are served by a network of head gates, ditches, and returns that are still in excellent working condition. The current owner chose to stop producing hay when they acquired the property and has focused the ample water resources on converting the hay ground to a regenerative management practice that emphasizes intensive, short-rotation, year-round grazing.  Subsequently, there are no recent records of hay production. Conversion back to hay could be easily accomplished and, with a season or two of effort, achieve the production levels typical of the area.

Water Rights:

The ranch holds senior water rights in several historic area ditches, including but not limited to the Vader-Rausis and Elsen Vader ditches and extensions.  These valuable water rights support irrigation and habitat health of the extensive meadow lands on the valley floor.
